Sugar Queen Link-up #3

Chapters 8-10

  • The end of chapter 7 and the beginning of chapter 8, Della Lee told Josey that she was her sister. What was your initial reaction to this news? Did you see this coming?
This was a complete shock to me. It didn't even occur to me when they kept talking about how Josey's dad was unfaithful. At first I thought Della Lee was saying that to Josey to get something out of her.
  • What do you make of the Margaret/Rawley situation?
It doesn't surprise me. Women like Margaret, meaning unhappy, usually have a hidden happiness to them. I hope she turns this situation around and can find happiness again.
  • Why do you suppose Jake is keeping the woman he slept with a mystery? Who do you think it is?
I can't figure this out. Why is it such a big deal? I kind of think it could be Della Lee. Is that why she showed up, she feels guilty now?
  • Josey lives in a world of rules, from a neighborhood that bans snowmen to a mother who bans a snug red sweater. What is the purpose of these rules? What stifling rules in your life—at work, with your family, or in your community—do you sometimes dream of breaking?
I don't believe I have very many stifling rules in my life at this point. I do remember have a lot more rules/restrictions when I was growing up. I was the oldest child, so I believe my parents paved their way with me. I always said my sisters had things a lot easier than I did.
