Team Jack

If you were following me this Fall, you know that I like a good college athletics story. I posted a few this past year and even though we haven't reached the 2013 Fall season...I have a great one to share with you! Below is a video of the Nebraska Spring Game from Saturday. I am an alumni of Nebraska and this is so heart warming and just plain cool.

Below you will see Jack Hoffman, a 7 year old Nebraska kid fighting brain cancer, score the longest running touchdown in a Spring Game in Nebraska's history.  I'm proud of the players and coaches that created this moment and the pure joy they showed as they ran the field with Jack. You may have already seen this clip, I know it was even highlighted on my local evening news in NC! Way to go Jack!

2013 Style Resolutions: Stripes, Monochromatics and Double Jewels

Stripes

I am terrified of stripes, specifically horizontal stripes. Everywhere you look you will see them this upcoming season. So, my goal is to work them slowly into my wardrobe and find pieces that are flattering on my body shape and that I feel comfortable with.

Monochromatic

I absolutely love a gorgeous monochromatic look. I'd like to incorporate more monochromatic looks into my closet. I need to retrain my eye to look for those pieces rather than jumping away from exact colors.

Layered Jewels

I am just crazy about layered jewelry. We all love a good arm party, but I am more intrigued with layered necklaces. It takes a few simple accessories to one show-stopper!

These are three trends I am going to work at incorporating into my style aesthetic. Like any trend, I will be trying these trends in any way that I feel most comfortable. Do stripes make you uneasy? Try a striped accessory. Does layered jewelry feel like too much? Start with smaller pieces. These are your goals to set, have fun with them!

Creative Cash Gift

Need a last minute creative gift for your family? My mom was "pinteresting" and found a great way to give her nieces and nephews a cash gift!

Determine how much money you are gifting and get that amount in $1 bills. Roll each bill and tie with ribbon.

Attach the below poem to the sack of money and you are done!

Mini Gingerbread Donuts

This weekend I put Pinterest Inspiration to the test! I found this recipe from Pinch of Yum and boy was it good! I was nervous to take on a donut recipe, but since these were baked, they were easy! I did need to find a cute mini donut pan and I found one at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. What can't I find at that store? Here are my donuts...

Now head on over to Pinch of Yum for the recipe and her photos are much prettier to look at...but I'm pretty sure they tasted the same...yummy!

Derby Days

This is what I'd be wearing to the Kentucky Derby this weekend...if I was going! This event is one that is on my husband and I's bucket list, so one day we'll make it happen. But until then...I can dream up the perfect hat that I will be spending a nice chunk of money on only to wear it once. This year I gave myself two options: black & white and pop of color!

Treasure Hunt

Treasure Hunt
I am currently crazy about gold accents! Blame it on the summer months that are right around the corner, but the second I get a little Vitamin D into my system I want all things sunny, bronzed and beautiful. These gold pieces are so unique and would add a special something to any outfit.

Bring on the Rain

Do you remember my raincoat post awhile back? I have been searching high and low for a raincoat that I could wear with various outfits and I finally found one! Thank goodness too because we have had some wet weather lately!

Raincoat: Cynthia Rowley {found at TJ Maxx} | Dress: Dillards {old} | Shoes: Guess {No longer online, similar here} | Glasses: Armani Exchange {Last season, similar here} | Necklace: Pearls

I love the details of this raincoat! I've been able to dress it up and dress it down. The perfect Spring staple. And it was a great TJ Maxx find? It doesn't get better than that. Have you guys found anything great at TJ Maxx lately?

Fashion Inspiration - Freida Pinto

Today I want to share with you one of my favorite fashion inspirations, Freida Pinto! She is the definition of grace and beauty. I love how she wears her fashion with effortless ease. Her makeup and hair are always natural and not overdone. No, I do not wear ballgowns in my every day life; however, I use Freida's inspiration to teach me "how to" wear my clothes and the grace to make an outfit work.
Here are some of her most recent looks and some of my favorites! When I get a magazine in the mail, Freida is someone I hope appears in the given issue! I hope she can inspire you too!

Rain Rain Go Away...Or Not.

So we just came off of an incredibly chilly, gloomy, and rainy weekend here in North Carolina. On a positive note, all this weather feels like spring is about to hit.

Naturally, to deal with these elements, I need a raincoat. So I took to my computer to "stake out the competition" (I'm watching the Super Bowl right now if you were wondering. M&M's take the best commercial)

Here are a few choices I found that I need to go check out in person:
Photobucket

I love the natural two-toned color of this coat. The details are dainty and fun. Plus isn't the Tulip-Hem gorgeous?!

Photobucket

I like that I could dress this coat up or down. Great quality and a very sliming fit!

Photobucket

Red is my happy color. You can never be in a bad mood if you are wearing red. So if it is gloomy, I put on this coat and all is well! And look at that price point!

Photobucket

This is more on the casual side but I love the fit! The coal color is my favorite and I can't definitely see me running around town in this!

And lastly, I always turn to my trustworthy, favorite designer Calvin Klein. Ol' Calvin and I see eye-to-eye on just about everything. I love his fabric choices, colors, and fit. This trench has a faux leather trim that makes it oh so chic. Plus...tada it is on sale. My hubby's favorite word. That coat has Mia written all over it!

Well I think that was a good start to my search for a raincoat. So as much as I wished this rain would go away, if I'm going to get a fabulous coat, I guess it can stick around for a bit! Hope that gave you some inspiration too! Any other ideas, feel free to send them my way!
